This app summarizes the affordability of more than 350 different geographical regions by occupation. It compares the salaries for the 149 lowest earning occupations to more than 350 different regional price parities, the cost of living in different regions.
How Do I Use This App?
Use the dropdown to select an occupation, and then click “SEARCH.”
The first 3 fields are the geographical region, and the median hourly and annual salary for the chosen occupation in this region.
The last 3 fields are the cost of living (regional price parity), the ratio of median annual salary to median national annual salary, and the ratio of median annual salary to cost of living.
Why Is This App Important?
One of the ways to achieve a high standard of living is to live in an affordable place, which depends on two main factors: occupational salary and cost of living in that region.
Regions with higher salaries tend to have a higher cost of living, and therefore are not necessarily more affordable than regions with lower salaries. In order to accurately determine the affordability of a region, we need to consider both of these factors.
This initially might not be clear, which is why a tool that compresses this data and summarizes is important. This app can be helpful in determining where you should move to attain a higher standard of living.
